SPAIN

Madrid

Galicia

Spain, a nation that holds a special place in my heart, is where I can trace my family lineage on my father's side back through the sands of time. Throughout my entire life, I have had the privilege of journeying to Spain multiple times – from my childhood years to, hopefully, another visit this year. The allure of Spain lies not only in its rich culture and history but also in its delectable cuisine, making it a must-visit destination for anyone. My travels have primarily led me to the heart of Spain, exploring the vibrant city of Madrid, and to the enchanting northwestern region of Galicia. The diverse landscapes, the pulsating energy of city life, and the time-honored traditions in these two contrasting areas have left an indelible mark on my travel memories.

Tokyo

Tokyo, with its bustling streets, vibrant neon lights, and ramen shops on every corner, is a city that needs no introduction. Our journey started from taking a flight from Anchorage to Los Angelos, then after a 4 hour layover, we finally were on our way to Japan. We touched down in Nagoya before making our way to Tokyo via a domestic flight. The memory of the night we arrived is etched in my mind as if it were yesterday. That night was accompanied by a gentle rain, a cityscape illuminated by bright neon signs, and a mixed feeling of exhaustion and excitement. Our stay in Tokyo spanned a total of 10 days, with three at the beginning and seven marking the final leg of our trip. During our time there, we indulged in an array of amazing food experiences, some of which I'll share below!

Osaka / Kobe / Hiroshima

Osaka, often hailed as the culinary hub of Japan, truly lived up to its reputation during my stay. Each evening in this vibrant city felt like a gastronomic adventure, where I indulged in a feast that seemed to match the weight of my own body. Navigating through the lively streets of Dotonbori was a visual spectacle, with neon signs illuminating the night, food stalls tempting you as you pass by, and the joyous expressions of people savoring every bite of their amazing meals. It was in Osaka that I had the chance to delve a bit deeper into the daily lives of some of its residents. Our stay at a local hostel opened the doors to friendship with one of the hostel workers, who generously shared insights into the must-try places and hidden gems of the city. One memorable evening, we embarked on a lively bar-hopping adventure with fellow residents from around the globe, including individuals from Canada, India, China, and New Zealand. This experience not only introduced me to the diverse tapestry of people residing in Osaka but also exposed me to the local nightlife. Amidst the revelry, I was introduced to a drink called STRONG ZERO, leading to a night that stretched into the late hours and a morning of hangover troubles that lingered into the afternoon. Laughter, camaraderie, and the thrill of exploring new tastes marked this unforgettable night, complete with drinks, delicious food, hookah hits, and impromptu dance sessions. Osaka, you certainly know how to create lasting memories and leave a traveler yearning for more. Here are some spots to try!

Kanazawa

The main motivation behind our journey to Kanazawa was the desire to immerse ourselves in a town frozen in time, preserving the charm of the Edo period. Exploring the geisha district, marveling at Kanazawa Castle, and experiencing the authenticity of a traditional ryokan, complete with a hot spring in the basement, made our visit truly unforgettable.

GREAT BRITAIN

England

Scotland

In 2012, my initial encounter with Great Britain unfolded as I embarked on a summer adventure to reside with my aunt and uncle. The poignant moment of bidding farewell to my parents and brother lingered as I boarded the flight alongside my aunt, destined for London Heathrow Airport. The allure of England captivated me instantly. Being an avid history enthusiast, I had long immersed myself in the rich tales of England and its neighboring regions. Our residence during this memorable sojourn was nestled in the charming confines of Beaconsfield, a quaint town that served as our strategic base of operations. From this idyllic haven, we ventured forth to explore an array of captivating destinations reaching as far as Scotland.

United Arab Emirates

Dubai

Abu Dhabi

Al Ain

The UAE, a beautiful mixture of todays complex world. One of the primary attractions is the UAE's dazzling blend of modernity and tradition.Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine traversing the globe to the Middle East and finding myself living in the United Arab Emirates for nearly a year. Well, perhaps "living" is a bit of an exaggeration – let's just say, my job conveniently transported me there, courtesy of Uncle Sam! Now, while I may not pinpoint the exact place I called home during my stay, I can vividly recount every experience and delicious dish that graced my time in the United Arab Emirates. The news of my impending relocation filled me with immediate excitement, as the prospect of exploring the Middle East for the first time beckoned. The allure of a new culture, distinct atmosphere, and tantalizing cuisine was nothing short of exhilarating. Throughout my stay, the majority of places that I visited included the bustling metropolis of Dubai, the regal charms of Abu Dhabi, and the culturally rich enclave of Al Ain.

Italy

Rome

Vatican City

My journey to Italy unfolded during my 8th-grade year – a time when the exact age seems to blur in memory. What remains crystal clear, however, is the rush of excitement that swept over me when my mom invited me to join her and my grandmother on this adventure. With an immediate and resounding "yes," my anticipation soared. The trip was set to be in the middle of summer break, allowing us a two-week journey in this beautiful country. Little did I know, the true reason behind our trip was my grandmother's devout Catholic desire to visit Vatican City – a revelation that now makes me smile and laugh. Our arrival in Rome, albeit being extrememly tired and arriving at night, set the stage for an unforgettable experience. A taxi ride ushered us to the welcoming embrace of a cozy bed and breakfast, overseen by a warm-hearted elderly couple. This marked my stay in such charming accommodations, and without a doubt, it ranked among the finest bed and breakfasts I had ever encountered. Ill have to locate the name of this place, stay tuned !Each morning started with the delightful aroma of a home-cooked breakfast, courtesy of our hosts. Freshly squeezed juice and aromatic coffee graced the table, providing the perfect start to our day. The intimate kitchen setting allowed guests, including myself, to share this delight with the amiable hosts, who not only answered our questions but also dispensed personal advice and local suggestions, creating an atmosphere of genuine warmth and joy.
